June 26, 2005 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Kane County Cougars News Release

Clinton, IA- The Kane County Cougars were two outs away from their third consecutive series win, but Marcus McBeth gave up a game-ending two-run homer to Billy Susdorf for a 9-8 loss to the Clinton LumberKings at Alliant Energy Field. The Cougars trailed 4-2 entering the fifth but erupted against LumberKings starter Kyle Rogers. Gregorio Petit and Kevin Melillo had back-to-back triples to cut it 4-3, Jose Pineda delivered a two-run double with the bases loaded for a 5-4 advantage and Nick Blasi smacked a two-run single to put the Cougars up 7-4. After Clinton pulled within 7-6 from two runs against starter Ryan Ford, Eddie Kim crushed a seventh-inning solo homer to make it 8-6. J.R. Pickens had relieved Ford and worked 2 2/3 innings before giving way to Tomas Cabaniel, who surrendered a tally in the eighth for an 8-7 score. McBeth had ended the eighth-inning Clinton rally but struggled in the ninth. After fanning the first batter, he allowed a double to Ian Gac, which set up Susdorf's shot to left for the game-winner and 9-8 final. Clinton scored in the first against Ford, and the Cougars grabbed a 2-1 lead in the fourth after a sacrifice fly from Kim and run-scoring single from Blasi. A long fourth inning saw the LumberKings scored three times for that 4-2 lead they later lost. McBeth (1-1) took the defeat while Mike Padgett (3-3) recorded the win for Clinton. The Cougars (2-2) head to Beloit for a three-game series. Monday night's game is set for 7 CDT. Ryan Webb will face right-hander Jay Rainville.
