West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

COMSTOCK PARK - Brooks Colvin came through with the last of three consecutive two-out singles in the tenth inning to drive in Justin Justice with the winning run in a 7-6 victory over Lansing. The rally came two innings after pinch hitter Nick McIntyre delivered a game-tying single. McIntyre was out of the starting line up for the first time since May 26 following the end of his 16-game hitting streak on Saturday night.

Lansing took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning with five consecutive singles off Whitecaps starter Andrew Kown. Those were the only five hits allowed by Kown in six innings of work. The right hander retired ten in a row before he issued back-to-back walks to start the seventh. Kown allowed five runs total. West Michigan pulled to within 3-2 in the bottom of the second when Jeff Frazier scored as Andrew Graham hit into a double play. Josh Lee drove in the first run of the inning on a single. Lee scored to put the Whitecaps in front, 4-3 on a single by Graham in the fourth. West Michigan tied the game as Brent Dlugach came home from second on a wild pick-off throw to first by Lansing starter Jordan Timm. Dlugach scored to tie the game, 6-6 in the eighth on McIntyre's hit. For the game, Dlugach went 3-for-5 with a double and three runs scored. Wilkin Ramirez hit his team-leading ninth home run of the season in the fifth for a 5-3 Whitecaps lead. Lansing moved back in front in the top of the seventh on three runs. Jason Armstrong tied the score with a single. Eugenio Velez delivered an RBI sacrifice fly for a 6-5 Lugnuts advantage. Ed Clelland threw 1.2 innings of scoreless relief for West Michigan. Kevin Ardoin pitched the ninth and tenth without yielding a run to earn the victory.

With the win, West Michigan avoids a sweep in the four game series.
