Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

The St. Louis Cardinals Sunday placed outfielder Nick Stavinoha on the active Swing of the Quad Cities roster. Stavinoha, who has been with the team since the start of their current series at Wisconsin, is in uniform and on Joe Cunningham's bench for Sunday's series finale with Wisconsin. Stavinoha becomes the first 2005 draft pick to join the Swing roster.

A 6-2, 225-pounder from Houston, the 23-year-old Stavinoha was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the seventh round of the 2005 draft, out of Louisiana State. During his senior season at LSU, Stavinoha batted a team-best .370 with 18 home runs and a team-leading 65 RBI to earn second-team All-SEC honors. He was named Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Tournament's Baton Rouge Regional, batting .647 (11-17) with one home run, three runs scored and six RBI.

In two seasons at LSU, Stavinoha posted a .348 batting average (170-489) with 40 doubles, 26 home runs and 107 RBI in 120 career games. He was named to the SEC Academic Honor roll following both the 2004 and 2005 seasons. Stavinoha began his collegiate career at Houston's San Jacinto Junior College, where he recorded 37 home runs and 132 RBI and was twice named JUCO All-American.

The Swing roster currently stands at 25 players, the maximum allowed by the Midwest League. Stavinoha and pitcher Bo Dickerson, activated Saturday and in uniform on Sunday, will be the 44th and 45th players to suit up for the Swing in 2005. An updated roster follows this release.
