Southwest Michigan Devil Rays News Release
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. -- The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays suffered a 10-4 defeat to the South Bend Silver Hawks Sunday afternoon at C.O. Brown Stadium.
James Houser struggled all day after allowing eight hits, eight runs and two walks in 5 1/3 innings. The Rays fell victim to baserunning mistakes and untimely hitting as they totalled just four runs on 11 hits. Southwest Michigan had five doubles but stranded 13 men on base in the finale of the first homestand of the second half.
Fernando Perez, Reid Brignac, Patrick Cottrell and Craig Markel each had run scoring hits for the Devil Rays. Markel and Cottrell each had two hits.
The Devil Rays four-game attendance of 10,033 from Thursday, June 23 through today beat the previous high for a four-game series from June 9-12 which amassed 9,700. On the season, the Devil Rays have drawn 50,475 people. Through the same point in 2004, the team had 38,696. This is an increase of 30.5 percent.
The Rays won one of the first four games of the second half that began last Thursday. Southwest Michigan heads to Lansing and Kane County before returning to C.O. Brown Stadium for a four-game homestand against the Clinton LumberKings on July 4-7. The July 4 game will feature Independence Day fireworks and a special Kids Run the Bases event after the game
