Waddell's Gem, Martin's Two RBIs Fuel Curve over Baysox

CURVE, Pa. - Brandon Waddell baffled the Bowie Baysox over a career-high 8.2 innings and Jason Martin supplied the offense in the Altoona Curve's 2-1 win at Peoples Natural Gas Field on Tuesday.
Waddell (Win, 1-0) came one out shy of a complete-game shutout as the Curve (16-13) evened the series Baysox (14-16).
Facing the minimum through the first eight innings, Waddell erased leadoff singles by Bowie in the third, fifth and seventh innings with double plays. He did not walk a batter and matched a season-high seven strikeouts.
After Altoona failed to score in its previous 16 innings, Martin unloaded his third homer of the season to give the Curve a 1-0 lead in the first, tying Will Craig, Logan Hill and Christian Kelley for the team lead in home runs.
After a two-out triple in the sixth by Ke'Bryan Hayes, Martin beat out an infield single for his second RBI of the night.
Adrian Marin led off ninth with a single, but Waddell sat down the two batters that followed. Cedric Mullins singled with two outs to place runners on the corners, triggering a mound visit by Curve manager Michael Ryan.
Ryan left Waddell on the mound, but former Curve Anderson Feliz spoiled the shutout with an RBI single up the middle to plate the lone run for the Baysox.
Geoff Hartlieb (Save, 3) was summoned for the final out and struck out the Orioles' top prospect Austin Hays, who finished the night 0-for-4 with four strikeouts.
Cole Tucker snapped an 0-for-16 slide at the plate with a third-inning double. Will Craig extended his on-base streak to 10 games on a walk in the sixth inning.
The Curve own a perfect 7-0 record when getting seven or more innings from their starter and Waddell is the first starter to work into the ninth this season.
The Curve complete their homestand on Wednesday morning at PNG Field with the rubber match of the series against the Baysox. The Pirates' top prospect Mitch Keller (3-1, 2.73) will go for the Curve and Bowie will start the Orioles' top pitching prospect Hunter Harvey (0-1, 3.65). First pitch is set for 10:30 a.m.
The ballpark gates will open at 9 a.m. for Education Day, presented by Subway. Also on Wednesday, the Curve will wear their digital camo uniforms, presented by the Altoona Mirror, while fans will have opportunities to win prizes from the PA Lottery for Winning Wednesday.
