PONIES RUMBLE LATE FOR SERIES OPENER: Jhoan Urena's seventh-inning two-run blast was all Binghamton needed in Monday's 2-1 win at Dunkin Donuts Park. Both teams scored their only tallies in the seventh inning, while RHP Nabil Crismatt worked into the seventh inning for his third win of the season. It's the Rumble Ponies sixth series-opening win in nine tries.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Marcos Molina makes his fourth Eastern League start of the season and second since a brief stint with Las Vegas (AAA). He returned to Double-A by tossing 6.1 innings at Akron on May 2. The 23-year-old gave up five runs in a loss and has failed to win any of his five starts (at any level) this season. He went 6.0 innings and gave up 3 ER in his only start at Dunkin Donuts Park in 2017.
URENA'S BLAST: Jhoan Urena's seventh-inning home run proved to be the game-winner in Binghamton's 2-1 win. The longball was Urena's second home run of his Double-A career, both hit in late-game scenarios. His first dinger, also a two-run shot, came in the Rumble Ponies 13-1 rout at Erie on Arpil 27 and capped the scoring for the night.
ONE RUN FUN: The Rumble Ponies Monday night win pushed their mark to 5-2 in game's decided by just one run. That record is better than any other Eastern League team (by winning percentage). In 2017, Binghamton played in 52 one-run games, posting a 30-22 record.
MATT'S BAT: Matt Oberste extended his hitting streak to a season-best nine games on Monday night, going 1-for-3 with a run scored and a walk. He's 12-for-37 during the nine-game stretch, with five RBI and six walks. Peter Alonso owns the longest Rumble Ponies hitting streak this season (11 games).
PONIES POWER PITCHING: Three Rumble Ponies hurlers combined to limit Hartford to just six hits in Monday's win. That's the fewest hits allowed by Binghamton since an April 28 victory at Erie. The one run allowed is the fewest since April 27 at Erie. RHP Tyler Bashlor is second in the Eastern League with five saves.
CRISMATT CRUISING: RHP Nabil Crismatt is the first Rumble Ponies starter to three wins this season and lowered his ERA on Monday to 2.12, 9th-best in the Eastern League. Binghamton has won five of his six 2018 starts, despite the fact that Crismatt has received just 3.7 runs of offensive support each game.
SNAPPING THE STREAK: Binghamton's victory last night against the Yard Goats snapped Hartford's eleven-game winning streak. It was Hartford's first loss at home since April 10.
UP NEXT: The Rumble Ponies finish their three-game set with the Yard Goats on Wednesday morning. RHP Mickey Jannis tosses for Binghamton against Hartford LHP Jack Wynkoop.
