Sacramento River Cats News Release
Las Vegas, Nev. - After going down 5-0 in the third inning, the Sacramento River Cats (23-27) stormed back with 14 straight runs to defeat the Las Vegas Aviators (23-28) in blow out fashion for the third straight game on Saturday.
Sacramento started its barrage in the fourth on first baseman Jason Vosler's solo home run. The big fly extended the River Cats' streak to 16 consecutive games with a home run, breaking the franchise record of 15 set July 22 through August 6, 2004.
One inning later, right fielder Drew Robinson's leadoff single kicked off a five-run rally that saw RBI singles by designated hitter Jason Krizan and Vosler, as well as a go-ahead double by catcher Chadwick Tromp to make it 6-5.
The River Cats would score another six runs in the sixth, three coming on left fielder Joe McCarthy's bases clearing triple, and two in the seventh, one coming on second baseman Peter Maris' home run, to make it 14-5.
Already planning a bullpen game, the River Cats' pitching staff was dealt a major blow when piggyback Daniel Álvarez left injured after just 0.2 innings. Fortunately, right-hander Tyler Cyr (2-0) provided vital length, throwing 2.1 hitless innings.
Right-hander Matt Frisbee (1-3, 6.57) looks to clinch the series with a win on Sunday. He'll be opposed by righty Brian Howard (2-3, 5.40). First pitch is set for 4:05 p.m. (PT). Listen to Johnny Doskow call the game online at rivercats.com or on the MiLB First Pitch app.
Additional Notes
All nine River Cats had a hit and eight of the nine scored, totaling 14 runs, 15 hits and 14 RBIs. Vosler, Tromp, and McCarthy combined for 10 RBIs.
In three games this series, the River Cats have outscored Las Vegas 36-13 with 43 hits.
