Fort Wayne, IN - The San Diego Padres organization has announced that outfielder Josh Alley has been promoted to the Fort Wayne Wizards roster from the Eugene Emeralds of the Northwest League. Catcher Trey Johnston, who joined the Wizards on June 30, will be sent to Peoria, Arizona.
Alley was selected by the Padres in the 10th round out of the University of Tennessee in the 2005 June Amateur Draft. He led the Volunteers to an appearance in the NCAA College World Series and overall record of 46-21.
In 14 games with the Emeralds, Alley was hitting .365 with 11 runs, five doubles, one triple, six runs batted in and 15 walks. He had three stolen bases. Alley had four multi-hit games with Eugene, including going 3-for-4 in his professional debut. He also hit safely in 12 of the 14 games he appeared in for the Emeralds.
With Tennessee this season, Alley hit .324 with 70 runs, 19 doubles, a pair of triples and three home runs. He was second on the team with 25 stolen bases in 30 attempts.
As a sophomore at Tennessee during the 2004 season, Alley led the Volunteers with 54 runs scored and 37 walks. He also started in 32 of 48 games in left field as a true freshman in 2003.
Johnston appeared in one game for the Wizards.
