South Bend Silver Hawks News Release

South Bend, IN - In the first two games of their series against the Fort Wayne Wizards, the South Bend Silver Hawks did not look like a team that was a first half division champion. Monday night, the Hawks were able defeat the Wizards for their second straight win in a 4-1 victory.

With one away in the first, Jereme Milons singled to center and Cesar Nicolas walked putting runners on first and second. A Carlos Gonzales ground out into a force play with second baseman Sean Kazmar's relay to first going wide allowing Milons to score and give the Hawks an early 1-0 lead.

The Hawks added to their lead in the second inning. Alberto Gonzales reached on a two out single to center field, with Wilkin Castillo and Emilio Bonifacio each reaching on free passes by starter Chris Steinborn to load the bases for Jereme Milons. Milons sent a routine groundball to shortstop Matt Bush who muffed the chance bringing Gonzales home to make it 2-0 South Bend.

The Hawks scored twice more in the game. Wilkin Castillo singled to left field in the fourth to plate Alberto Gonzales and Cesar Nicolas scored on a wild pitch in the fifth.

Ross Ohlendorf (7-6) collected the win and Chris Steinborn (0-1) suffered the loss for the Wizards.

The Silver Hawks (53-36) continue their series with the Fort Wayne Wizards (42-47) Wednesday in Fort Wayne. The Silver Hawks will start Steven Jackson (6-2) against the Wizards Chris Steinborn (0-0). The Hawks return home Monday July 18 against the West Michigan Whitecaps. Monday's are Budweiser Dollar Monday, presented by ABC 57 and B-100, featuring $1.00 tickets, $1.00 hot dogs, and $1.00 Pepsi products. First pitch is slated for 7 PM.
