Kane County Cougars News Release

Lansing, MI- Kane County Cougars outfielder Luis Perez smashed a home run in the first inning Monday night in Lansing, had a total of five hits and led an offensive attack that carried the Cougars to a 6-3 win against the Lugnuts. Ryan Ford won for the eighth time this season, and the Cougars return home having won the series and seven of their last eight games.

Perez initiated the scoring with a first-inning solo home run off Po-Hsuan Keng. Javier Herrera doubled and scored on Eddie Kim's single to make it 2-0, and Kim scampered home when Myron Leslie cracked a single for a 3-0 score. Raul Padron followed with a sacrifice fly to produce a 4-0 advantage before Ford had taken the mound.

The left-hander worked six innings and allowed three unearned runs, two in the fourth and another in the sixth. He walked four and fanned none. Shawn Martinez, Jared Trout and Marcus McBeth each tossed a scoreless relief frame to preserve the 6-3 lead. Ford (8-4) hasn't lost since May. Keng (2-3) took the loss for Lansing, and McBeth got his first career save after working the ninth. The Cougars (12-7) are a season-high five games above .500, and they return to action Wednesday night at Elfstrom Stadium against the Beloit Snappers. Ryan Webb (4-7, 4.08) toes the rubber for Kane County against Beloit's Jay Rainville.
