Bullpen Implodes in 12-11 Loss to Rattlers

Peoria, IL - The Peoria Chiefs took an 11-2 lead into the 7th inning Monday night at O'Brien Field but the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers scored ten runs over the final four innings on their way to a 12-11 win over the Chiefs in 10 innings.

Wisconsin scored five times on six hits in the 7th to drive Chiefs starter Jesse Estrada from the game and pull within 11-7. Jerry Blevins replaced Estrada after he allowed hits to the first four batters he faced in the inning. Blevins allowed two hits before settling down to end the inning.

Chiefs reliever Tim Layden entered the game in the 9th with a four-run lead. Layden hit leadoff batter Marshall Hubbard and got Chris Colton to ground out before the Timber Rattlers recorded hits in five consecutive at-bats on their way to scoring four times and tying the game at 11-11. Hubbard started the 10th with an infield single and scored on a double from Omar Falcon for a 12-11 lead. Bo Flowers struck out with Eric Patterson at second base to end the game.

The Chiefs scored six times in the first two innings and got a three-run home run from Ryan Harvey as the Chiefs led 6-1. Peoria scored three more in the 4th and two more in the 6th for an 11-2 lead before things fell apart.

Chiefs starter Jesse Estrada pitched six innings, allowing six runs on eight hits in a no-decision. Wisconsin reliever Eric O'Flaherty pitched four scoreless innings in picking up his second win of the year. Layden allowed five runs over two innings, as he took the loss to fall to 1-3.

Pepsi Player of the Game

Ryan Harvey (RF) - Harvey went 2-for-6 with his 13th home run of the season in the 2nd inning. He added a two-run single in the 4th and finished with five RBI.

Notes... Aaron Smith recorded his first three-hit game of the season...Wisconsin manager Scott Steinmann was ejected in the 4th inning after arguing a play at the plate...The Chiefs are off tomorrow and will resume action Wednesday night in Burlington...First pitch with the Bees is scheduled for 7 PM...You can hear all the action on 1350 WOAM.
