Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

MOOSIC, Pa. - New York Yankees first baseman Luke Voit has joined the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on a Major League rehab assignment. Voit has worked out with the team all week and will be in the lineup this evening as the RailRiders take on the IronPigs on the road.

Voit, 28, was placed on New York's 10-Day Injured List with a sports hernia on July 31. He is hitting .278 for the Yankees this season with 19 home runs, 54 runs batted and an .885 OPS.

New York acquired Voit on July 28, 2018, from the St. Louis Cardinals for pitchers Chasen Shreve and Giovanny Gallegos. Over 133 games for New York since the trade, Voit has a .293 average, 33 home runs and 87 runs batted in.

Voit appeared in nine games for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last season after the trade but prior to being recalled by New York, batting .310 with one home run and three runs batted in. The home run was a walk-off blast against Norfolk on August 18, 2018, in game one of a doubleheader sweep at PNC Field.

The first baseman is the tenth Yankees player to join Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on an Allied Integrated Health Systems rehab assignment this year, joining Aaron Hicks, Didi Gregorius, Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Domingo Germán, Cameron Maybin, Jonathan Loaisiga, Gary Sanchez and Ben Heller.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre opens a seven-game road trip at Lehigh Valley this evening. After three games in Allentown, the RailRiders travel to Pawtucket for four against the PawSox. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre returns to PNC Field next Friday for the final homestand of the regular season. Tickets for the Labor Day weekend series are available online at swbrailriders.com.
