Mud Hens Fall Short in Columbus

Toledo, Ohio - Traveling to Columbus on Friday, the Toledo Mud Hens took on the Columbus Clippers at Huntington Park, ending with a score of 15-7 favoring the Clippers.

The Mud Hens offense began early in the game. With one out logged in the first inning, Jeimer Candelario knocked a doubled to the right field corner before advancing to third on a pass ball. A single through the infield by Christin Stewart allowed Candelario to score to give Toledo the first run of the game. Attempting a steal, Stewart swiped second and then took third on a wild throw into the outfield. Stewart was joined on the bases by Willi Castro who was hit by a pitch. Mikie Mahtook followed up by dropping a bloop single into shallow right field, scoring Stewart to push the Toledo lead to 2-0.

After scoring two in the bottom of the second to tie the game, Columbus utilized a two-run home run by Yu Chang in the third to take the lead, 4-2, before the Clippers unleased six more runs in the inning, closing the third with a 10-2 lead.

With the score at 12-2 in the top of the fifth, the Mud Hens used two walks and two hit by pitches to score one run followed by a single off the bat of Grayson Greiner to move the score to 12-4 at the half way point of the contest.

Columbus added two runs in the bottom of the fifth before the Hens answered in the sixth. Pete Kozma began the inning with a single, moving up on a groundball and then a pass ball before finally scoring on another ground out to push the score to 14-5. Later in the inning, Daz Cameron scored on a wild pitch to give Toledo another run.

The last offensive action of the night for Toledo would come in the top of the ninth inning. Frank Schwindel knocked a home run to give Toledo their seventh run of the game, moving the score to 15-7.

What's Next:

The Mud Hens and Clippers will continue their series on Saturday at Huntington Park. Toledo is schedule to pitch Tim Adleman, who leads the team in wins, while Columbus is scheduled to throw Logan Allen, who was acquired by the Indians organization in the Trevor Bauer trade earlier this year.

Hens' Notes:

- Prior to the start of Friday's contest, Jeimer Candelario's rehab assignment was ended and he was activated by Detroit. Candelario was then optioned to Toledo, placing him on the Mud Hens' active roster.
