Tacoma Rainiers News Release

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Tacoma Rainiers (17-19) dropped the first game of their series against the Sacramento River Cats (19-17) by a final score of 6-1 on Saturday night at Raley Field.

First baseman Daniel Vogelbach reached base twice and provided Tacoma's only run of the night on a solo home run in the first inning.

Rainiers starting pitcher Roenis Elias (1-2) threw 92 pitches (57 strikes) across 5.2 innings of work - he allowed three runs on five hits while walking two and striking out seven.

Vogelbach gave the Rainiers a 1-0 lead with a solo home run in the third at-bat of the game, and Tacoma held onto their 1-0 lead all the way into the sixth inning. However, the slim edge slipped away in the bottom of the sixth when the River Cats grabbed a 3-1 lead on a three-run home run from Kyle Jensen.

The River Cats added a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh and one more in the eighth while holding off the Rainiers down the stretch, sending Tacoma to a 6-1 defeat.

Tacoma and Sacramento square off in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon - game one is scheduled to begin at 1:05 p.m. PT, with game two following 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game. Both contests will be seven innings long.
