
Sparkmann Sparks Chasers to 4-2 Win

Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
NEW ORLEANS, LA (May 13) - Glenn Sparkman pitched 6 strong innings in his first start for Omaha, helping the Chasers defeat the Baby Cakes 4-2 on Sunday afternoon at The Shrine On Airline.
Omaha broke a scoreless tie in the top of the 5th; Ryan O'Hearn walked, Cam Gallagher singled, and Paulo Orlando was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Humberto Arteaga drove in O'Hearn with a sacrifice fly, and Terrance Gore laid down a bunt single to score Gallagher for a 2-0 Chasers lead.
New Orleans clawed a run back in the bottom of the 6th, on a 2-out double by Eric Campbell and a Tomas Telis RBI single, cutting Omaha's lead to 2-1.
Glenn Sparkman (W, 1-0) was excellent in his Triple-A debut; he allowed just 1 run on 4 hits over 6 innings, with 4 strikeouts and 2 walks.
Dillon Peters (L, 0-1) also enjoyed a strong start for New Orleans. He was charged with 2 runs in 6 innings, with 5 hits, 1 walk, and 4 strikeouts.
Brandon Maurer worked 1.2 innings in relief, and Josh Staumont recorded the final out in the bottom of the 8th.
The Chasers added to their lead in the top of the 9th. Frank Schwindel doubled, Ryan O'Hearn singled, and Cam Gallagher hit a ground ball that was booted by New Orleans shortstop Cito Culver, allowing Schwindel to score. Paulo Orlando followed with a single, loading the bases, and Humberto Arteaga grounded into a double play, scoring O'Hearn for a 4-1 lead.
Staumont walked the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th, and Eric Stout (S, 1) was summoned to record the final 2 outs. A sacrifice fly by Austin Dean brought in a run for the Baby Cakes, but Stout retired Jon Rodriguez to end the game, giving Omaha their first win in 6 tries against New Orleans this season.
The Storm Chasers (13-24) will continue the series in New Orleans tomorrow. RHP Trevor Oaks (2-3, 3.67) will pitch for Omaha, opposed by LHP Adam Conley (2-4, 6.19) for the Baby Cakes. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 Central Time.
