Oklahoma City Comets News Release

Colorado Springs, Colo. - A stretch of four unanswered runs by the Colorado Springs Sky Sox in the middle innings helped them overcome an early two-run deficit, sending the Oklahoma City Dodgers to a second consecutive one-run defeat in a 4-3 game Sunday afternoon at Security Service Field.

All started well for Oklahoma City (24-11) on Mother's Day. After being held to one run Saturday night, the Dodgers scored twice between the second and third innings to take a 2-0 lead. Rocky Gale and Kyle Garlick each collected a two-out RBI double to plate the runs.

The Sky Sox tied the game in the third inning. After putting two runners on with none out, the Sky Sox pulled even with a RBI groundout by Nate Orf and a two-out RBI single by Kyle Wren.

The Dodgers appeared to be poised to regain the lead in the fourth inning after a one-out triple by Travis Taijeron. Gale came up next and send a grounder to the left side of a drawn-in infield. Taijeron took off for home plate on contact and was thrown out by Sky Sox shortstop Eric Sogard.

Starting with the fielder's choice, the Dodgers offense stalled over the next five innings. After Taijeron's triple, only one of the next 15 Dodgers that came to the plate collected a hit, including a stretch of 10 straight batters retired by the Sky Sox pitching staff immediately after the triple.

With the Dodgers offense staying quiet, the Sky Sox took the lead, albeit with some help from the Dodgers in the sixth inning. Brett Phillips hit a one-out infield single and then advanced to third base when OKC second baseman Donovan Solano committed a two-base throwing error. After a pop out, Tyler Heineman sent pop fly to shallow left field that landed right in front of a sliding Garlick for a go-ahead RBI single.

Tyrone Taylor added to the Sky Sox lead in the eighth inning with a solo home run.

The Dodgers got their bats going a bit in the ninth inning against Jacob Barnes. Jake Peter drew a leadoff walk and pinch hitter Henry Ramos followed with a single, putting runners at the corners. Taijeron hit into a forceout at second base, allowing Peter to score.

Taijeron advanced into scoring position on a groundout by Gale, but pinch hitter Alex Burg flied out to center field to end the game.

Dodgers starting pitcher Guillermo Moscoso had a solid outing, but ended up with the loss. Moscoso (1-2) allowed three runs (two earned) and six hits over six innings, with one walk and five strikeouts.

Sky Sox reliever Jon Perrin (2-0) picked up the win, and Barnes earned his first save since being optioned to Colorado Springs.

With Sunday's defeat, the Dodgers have lost four of their last five road games, each by one run. OKC also lost for the 11th time in the team's last 13 games at Security Service Field, as well as for the eighth time in their last nine games at that ballpark.

The Dodgers and Sky Sox meet next at 7:40 p.m. Central time Monday at Security Service Field. Live coverage begins 15 minutes before first pitch on AM 1340 "The Game," 1340thegame.com, or through the free iHeartRadio mobile app.
