Fresno Grizzlies News Release
The Fresno Grizzlies (22-15) stung the Salt Lake Bees (22-15) 7-4 Saturday night from Chukchansi Park. Fresno starter Trent Thornton (3-2) earned the win after six and two-thirds innings, allowing six hits, three runs (earned), walking one and fanning six. On the other side, Salt Lake starter Greg Belton (0-1) took the loss after three innings of three-run ball. He scattered four hits, walking one and striking out three.
Alejandro Garcia gave the Grizzlies a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second when he singled home AJ Reed. Then, Eduardo de Oleo lasered a double, plating Garcia. Finally, de Oleo crossed home after a triple by Tony Kemp. With the three-bagger, Kemp became the franchise leader in triples, passing Todd Linden. He also extended his hit streak to a team-high 18 games.
Juan Graterol (3-for-4) pushed the deficit to 3-2 in the top of the fifth when he doubled home a pair of Bees.
Kyle Tucker (3-for-4) quickly erased the double, smashing his third homer of the season to right-center. It was 5-2 Fresno after the two-run shot in the fifth.
After three more innings, Salt Lake had cut the lead to 5-4 from a groundout and balk.
In the bottom of the eighth, Reed made sure the Bees would not come back, crushing a two-run dinger to right. His fifth home run made it 7-4 Fresno.
The three-run advantage was enough for closer James Hoyt, who secured a five-out save. It was his first save of the season.
Both teams are back in action Sunday afternoon from Chukchansi Park. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 PT. Grizzlies' RHP Cy Sneed (2-2, 5.17) battles fellow Bees' righty Ivan Pineyro (0-3, 6.75).
