New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Hartford, CT - Top Minor League prospect Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and new trade acquisition Forrest Wall both homered as part of a 13-hit attack in the New Hampshire Fisher Cats' (Toronto Blue Jays Double-A affiliate) 7-3 win over the Hartford Yard Goats (Colorado Rockies) in the opener of a four-game series on Thursday night at Dunkin' Donuts Park.
Guerrero went 2-for-4, newcomer Forrest Wall homered, Jon Berti tripled twice, Harold Ramirez doubled three times and Cavan Biggio was hit in the foot twice for the Fisher Cats (57-44).
An all around solid pitching performance saw Jon Harris (W, 8-4) work six innings of two run ball. He allowed four hits and struck out six. Nick Hartman, Zack Jackson and Danny Young worked in relief.
The Fisher Cats took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Cavan Biggio led off with a hit-by-pitch, moved to second on a single by Connor Panas, and scored on a single by Max Pentecost.
Hartford took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the inning on a two-out, two-run double into the right field corner by Mylz Jones.
New Hampshire's new centerfielder, Forrest Wall, homered in his second at bat after joining the Fisher Cats from Hartford. Wall was part of a trade between the Blue Jays and Rockies earlier in the day. The homer made it 2-2.
The Fisher Cats moved ahead in the sixth on a pair of doubles by Harold Ramirez and Pentecost. Vlad homered in the seventh to make it 4-2. Jon Berti's second triple of the game plated Pentecost and Santiago Espinal to make it 6-2.
Hartford cut it to 6-3 in the bottom of the eighth inning when Yonathan Daza tripled and scored on a wild pitch.
Biggio was hit again in the ninth, and scored on a double by Ramirez for the game's final run. Jesus Tinoco (L, 6-9) took the loss.
The series in Hartford continues on Friday at 7:05 p.m. RHP Jordan Romano (9-4, 3.55), the reigning Eastern League Pitcher of the Week, starts against Yard Goats RHP Rico Garcia (3-0, 2.63). Coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and online at nhfishercats.com.
