Inland Empire 66ers News Release
Visalia, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino got a strong start for Andrew Wantz but the Visalia Rawhide made it two in a row over the Sixers with scoring six runs in the sixth inning en route to a 7-3 win on Saturday. The Rawhide have now taken the first two games of the series with an opportunity to sweep the Sixers on Sunday.
Josh Green (3-1), who entered the game having struck out 14 batters in his previous 28 innings struck the Sixers in order in the top of the first. In the bottom of the first, Wantz allowed a solo homer to Jose Caballero (3) on the first pitch he threw and a 1-0 deficit. Wantz allowed no more runs and just three more hits plus a walk while fanning five in five innings for a no-decision. Inland Empire (14-16) tied the game in the top of the second when Ryan Vega singled and eventually scored on Zane Gurwitz' RBI single. Inland Empire took the lead in the third when Vega again delivered an RBI double off Green scoring Torii Hunter Jr. who had walked earlier in the frame, for a 2-1 advantage. Vega was thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple; Inland Empire did not score again until the ninth when they scratched an unearned run across. Visalia (21-9) got to IE reliever Erik Manoah Jr. (1-1) in the sixth as he loaded the bases with no outs. After an RBI ground by Yoel Yanqui tied the game at 2-2, Manoah walked another batter to load the bases. He struck out Anfernee Greer however, and worked a 2-2 count against JT Tolbert, but the Rawhide 1B lifted the next offering over the head of LF Kevin Williams Jr. for a bases clearing double and a 5-2 lead. Cam Duzenack then smacked a two-run homer off of IE reliever Jorge Tavarez. Alvaro Rubalcaba had two hits for the 66ers in the loss.
The series concludes Sunday at 2:00 pm. The contest can be heard live at 66ers.com.
