Modesto Nuts News Release

STOCKTON, CA - Jeremy Eierman hit a walk-off single to center field in the bottom of the 10th inning, and the Modesto Nuts saw their three-game winning streak come to an end in a 4-3 loss to the Stockton Ports on Saturday night at Banner Island Ballpark.

The Nuts could not capitalize in the top half of the 10th. With Jack Larsen on 2nd base representing the go-ahead run to begin the inning, Cal Raleigh grounded out to move the runner up to third with one out. With the Stockton infield drawn in, Luis Liberato couldn't get the run home, grounding out, and Anthony Jimenez flew out to left field to end the inning, stranding Larsen at third.

In the Ports half of the 10th inning, a leadoff groundout to first base by Alfonso Rivas moved Lazaro Armenteros up to third base with one out, which set the stage for Eierman who sent the Ports home winners.

Saturday was the seventh extra-innings game this season for the Nuts, who are 3-4 in such contests.

Joe Rizzo reached base all four times and raised his league-leading batting average to .358, going 3-for-3 with his first home run of the season. Jack Larsen also had three hits, stole a base, and scored a run for the Nuts.

The Nuts will be in Stockton on Friday night for the start of a three-game series. First pitch against the Ports is at 7:10 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:00 p.m. Listen live online on your phone, tablet or PC.
