
Vipers Top Idaho Stampede 125-120

HIDALGO, Texas, January 22, 2014 - The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (18-6) topped the Idaho Stampede (13-9) 125-120 tonight at State Farm Arena.
Houston Rockets assignee, Isaiah Canaan, led the Vipers with a double-double 26 points, 10 rebounds. Troy Daniels added 24 points. Tim Ohlbrecht scored 15 points of his 19 total points in the first quarter. Tony Bishop, Jr. scored 18 points, and Gary Talton added a double-double 13 points, 11 rebounds.
Pierre Jackson led the Stampede with 44 points, followed by Kevin Murphy with 24 points. E.J. Singler and Dee Bost each added 17 points.
Canaan and Daniels both connected on shots to give the Vipers a 4-0 lead to start the game. Hearn connected on a layup to put Idaho on the board 4-2. RGV used a 22-8 run in the middle of the first quarter to take a 29-12 lead with 3:31 on the clock. At the end of the first quarter, the Vipers were up 39-24.
The Vipers' largest lead of the game was at the beginning of the second quarter. Jordan Henriquez connected on a jump shot that put the Vipers ahead 44-24. Jackson responded with a three-pointer that gave Idaho the momentum to close their deficit. The Stampede outscored the Vipers 38-29 in the second quarter and trailed 68-62 at the half.
RGV built its lead up to 80-67 on a layup by Daniels. Bost responded with a jump shot that sent the Stampede on a 13-4 run that tied the game at 82 points. Henriquez responded with a layup to help the Vipers regain the lead 84-82. At the end of the third quarter, RGV led 97-84.
The Vipers maintained control throughout most of the fourth quarter. With two minutes remaining in the game, Jackson connected on a layup that sent Idaho on a 11-1 run to close their deficit to 123-120. Canaan followed up with two free throws to secure the Vipers 125-120 lead.
The Vipers hit the road for a 7 p.m. (CT) contest at Texas Friday, Jan. 24. Then, on Saturday, Jan. 25, the Vipers are back at home when they host Austin at 7 p.m. (CT) at State Farm Arena.
