
Vipers Tie Franchise Record With Sixth-Straight Win

HIDALGO, TEXAS - The Rio Grande Valley Vipers are now winners of six-straight, the first time they have ever accomplished that feat in a single-season and only the second time they have ever done it (the final four games of the 2007-08 season and the first two of the 2008-09 season) after defeating the Albuquerque Thunderbirds 127-110 tonight at Dodge Arena in front of a crowd of 5,342.
The Vipers (6-1) had six players in double-figures scoring and two more with nine points while shooting 56.8% from the floor, including 45.8% (11-for-24) from behind the arc in addition to a season-best 82.8% (24-for-29) from the foul line.
The Vipers continued their hot-scoring in the first quarter, jumping out to a 31-19 lead before the Thunderbirds (2-5) closed the quarter on a 5-0 run. Garrett Temple hit his first two three-point shots, making him nine for his last ten at that point.
Temple finished with 21 points, including four three-pointers in nine attempts.
Up 38-33 with 8:51 to go, the Vipers went on a 10-1 run over the next 3:03 to take a 48-34 lead. Kurt Looby blocked two shots and had a slam to fuel the run while Ernest Scott capped it with a three-pointer.
Looby finished with nine points, five blocks and four rebounds while Scott also scored nine points.
Mike Harris led the Vipers in scoring for the fourth time this season, with 23 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals. Joey Dorsey recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 18 points and a career-high 18 rebounds while Antonio Anderson picked up his second-straight double-double with 17 points and a career-high 13 assists.
Carlos Powell led the Thunderbirds with 23 points. Keith McLeod had 18 points and five assists while Yaroslav Korolev had 18 points, 15 of which came in the first half. Korolev also had five rebounds.
The Vipers travel to Tulsa for the first of two games against the 66ers on Friday at 8:00 p.m. at the Tulsa Convention Center.
