Vipers set new NBA Development League 3-Point Field Goals Made in a Single Season

HIDALGO, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (24-9) fell to the Tulsa 66ers (14-20) 144-120 tonight at State Farm Arena. The Vipers set a new NBA Development League Three-Point Field Goals Made in a Single Season record with 528 three-point shots made this season. RGV held the previous record of 524 three-point shots made during the 2011-12 season.

Houston Rockets assignee Robert Covington led the Vipers with 30 points and 9 rebounds. Kenny Kadji set a new personal season-high with 19 points. Akeem Ellis added 13 points, followed by Tim Ohlbrecht with 11 points. Kevin Parrom and Rockets assignee Troy Daniels each added 10 points. Gary Talton also scored 4 points and 11 assists.

Tulsa was led by Mario Little and Reggie Williams, who each scored 26 points. Grant Jerrett added 25 points. Rodney Bartholomew scored a double-double 15 points and 15 rebounds. Mustafa Shakur also added a double-double with 13 points and 12 assists.

Covington started the game with back-to-back three-pointers to give the Vipers and early 6-2 lead. The Houston Rockets assignee shot 4-7 from three-point range during the first quarter and connected on a total of six three-pointers during the game. Jerrett tied the game at six points with a layup, and Roberson connected on a dunk to put the 66ers ahead 8-6. Covington shot another three-pointer to give RGV a 9-8 lead. The Vipers largest lead of the first half was at the 7:55 mark in the first quarter, 15-10, when Tony Bishop, Jr. made a dunk, assisted by Ohlbrecht. Midway through the quarter, Jerrett made a shot from behind the arc to steal the 19-17 lead. Ohlbrecht responded with a hook shot to tie the game at 19 points, but the Vipers were not able to reclaim the lead in the game.

Bishop tied the game at 47 points with 6:58 remaining in the first half, but Tulsa remained in control. Tulsa's largest lead of the first half was 13 points twice in the second quarter. At the half, the Vipers trailed the 66ers 73-63.

Tulsa kept a double-digit lead throughout the second half and won 144-120.

The Vipers are back in action Saturday, Feb. 22 for the second game of this back-to-back series versus Tulsa. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. (CT).
