Sharp-Shooting 66ers Fight Past Vipers

HIDALGO, Texas - The Tulsa 66ers began their four-game road trip with a 144-120 win over the Rio Grande Valley Vipers on Friday night in Hidalgo, Texas. Three 66ers scored 25 or more points as Tulsa tied its franchise record for points scored, previously set in a 144-127 win against Rio Grande Valley earlier this season on Jan. 27.
Reggie Williams tallied 26 points, seven assists and two blocks while Mario Little registered 26 points, four rebounds and two steals. Grant Jerrett shot 10-for-16 from the field en route to 25 points and five assists.
Rodney Bartholomew (15 points, 15 rebounds, four assists) and Mustafa Shakur (13 points, 12 assists) collected double-double as seven Tulsa players scored double-digit points. Scoop Jardine posted 12 points, four rebounds and six assists Jon Kreft scored 11 points with four boards and two blocks.
The 66ers combined for a season-high 36 assists, one shy of their franchise record. Tulsa shot 50-for-84 (59.5 percent) from the field, including 13-for-26 (50.0 percent) from three-point range.
Shakur registered seven assists in the opening quarter to help Tulsa take a 35-31 lead at the end of the first as the 66ers shot 6-for-8 from behind the three-point line.
Tied at 47 midway through the second quarter, Tulsa went on a 12-0 run to take a 59-47 lead with three and half minutes remaining in the half. The 66ers headed to halftime with a 73-63 lead.
Rio Grande Valley pulled within eight halfway through the third quarter before Tulsa went on a 15-0 run to go up 100-77. The 66ers went on another big run in the fourth, scoring 14 straight to lead 119-87 with just over eight minutes to play. Tulsa led by 23 or more the remainder of the game.
The Vipers (24-9) were led by Robert Covington with 30 points and nine rebounds.
The 66ers (14-20) have won four of their last five games, outscoring their opponents 114.8 to 101.5 in their four most recent wins.
Tulsa and Rio Grande Valley face off again on Saturday night with a 7 p.m. tip time at State Farm Arena. The contest will air live on YouTube.
