Santa Cruz Warriors News Release
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors fell to the Springfield Armor 94-80 at Kaiser Permanente Arena Thursday night in the first game of a back-to-back.
The Warriors were paced by Hilton Armstrong, who scored 15 points and grabbed 13 boards, and Dominic McGuire, who also scored 15. Cameron Jones scored 13 off the bench, while Joe Alexander chipped in with 12, also in a reserve role.
Springfield was led by Darius Johnson-Odom, who scored 28 points and dished out 10 assists. Jeff Foote scored 14 and grabbed 13 boards, while Willie Reed had 13 points and 13 boards.
There were four lead changes in the game - all in the first half. The Warriors owned their largest lead of one with 5:30 left in the second quarter, but Adonis Thomas hit a floating jump shot with 4:37 remaining in the half to put the Armor ahead 36-35 and Springfield never trailed again. The Armor led by as much as 19 in the third quarter, and while the Warriors made a run to cut Springfield's lead to single digits late in the fourth, it wasn't enough.
Springfield outshot the Warriors from the field (43.4%-34.9%) and from distance (28.0%-4.5%). Santa Cruz held the edge on rebounds (53-50) and points in the paint (48-40), while the Armor had more assists (22-14), steals (9-7) and blocks (7-4). Santa Cruz committed fewer turnovers (13-14).
The Santa Cruz Warriors face the Springfield Armor on Friday, Feb. 21 at 7:00 p.m. at Kaiser Permanente Arena for the second game of a back-to-back. Fans can listen to the broadcast on the Santa Cruz Warriors flagship station, KION 1460AM/101.1FM, watch it on KOTR My11 in the Central Coast area or stream it on the NBA D-League's YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/nbadleague.
