
Vipers Rally to Win Ninth Straight

Bismarck, N.D. (Jan. 21, 2011) - The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (16-7) rallied to defeat the Dakota Wizards (7-19) 102-100 at the Bismarck Civic Center Friday night. Jeff Adrien led the way for the Vipers recording his 10th double-double of the season with 23 points and 14 rebounds.
The Vipers jumped out to an early 10-5 lead in the first quarter getting seven early points from Jerel McNeal and then Dakota answered with a 19-4 run to lead by 10 with 3:37 left in the first quarter. Mike Hall scored nine of his 27 points in the first and Maurice Baker would hit a three-pointer at the end of the quarter to give Dakota a 33-24 lead. Dakota extended the lead to 15 early in the second on a jumper by Darren Cooper and Rio Grande fought back to cut the lead to 60-53 at the break.
The Wizards took a 67-61 on a lay-up by Mike Hall with 8:09 remaining in the third quarter and the Vipers would respond with an 8-0 run capped off by two free throws by Jerel McNeal to take their first lead of the quarter at 69-67. Dakota regained the lead and led 80-78 at the end of three.
With the game tied at 98-98 in the fourth, Stanley Asumnu's lay-up would give the Vipers a 100-98 lead with 4:14 left in the game. Mike Anderson converted one of two free throws to cut the lead to one with 2:57 left and Darren Cooper would hit one of two and tie the game at 100 with 21.3 left in the game. Jerel McNeal hit a lay-up with 7.6 seconds left to give the Vipers a 102-100 lead. After a Wizards timeout, Anthony Goods missed a three-pointer and Mike Hall would miss the put back to end the game.
Mike Hall led the way for Dakota (7-19) recording his third double-double in as many games with 27 points and 13 rebounds. Anthony Goods would finish with a season high 27 points
Jerel McNeal would finish with 17 points and Mustafa Shakur contributed 18 to the Vipers victory.
The same two teams will return to action tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. at the Bismarck Civic Center.
