
Vipers Break Franchise Record for Fewest Points Allowed

SPRINGFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS - The defending NBA Development League champion Rio Grande Valley Vipers set a franchise record for fewest points allowed while matching this season's league mark and tying for third place in league history with a 103-70 win over the Springfield Armor Saturday at the MassMutual Center.
The Vipers' (26-11) previous record was 76 points allowed against the Reno Bighorns (2/6/10) and the Sioux Falls Skyforce (12/1/07). The Maine Red Claws were held to 70 points by the Dakota Wizards on January 7. North Charleston was held to 68 points and Greenville to 63 points on April 8, 2002.
The Vipers are now winners of three-straight while the Armor (10-26) are losers of five in a row.
Tony Bobbit hit a pair of three-pointer as the Armor jumped out to a 9-1 lead in the opening five minutes of the game. The Vipers hit their first basket of the game after nearly seven minutes had elapsed when Richard Roby went on a baseline drive for a reverse lay-up.
The Vipers hit 4-of-15 shots (26.7%) in the first quarter, including a three-pointer by Connor Atchley and a buzzer-beating jumper by Terrel Harris in the final minutes to pull within 21-13.
The Vipers scored the first seven points of the second quarter to cap off a 12-2 run to pull within 21-20. The Vipers took their first lead of the game at 36-34 on Matt Janning's three-pointer at the 3:14 mark.
Jerel McNeal hit back-to-back baskets after a Patrick Sullivan slam, and then Jon Scheyer hit a pair of lay-ups as the Vipers opened the fourth quarter on a 20-0 run to extend their lead to 88-59 in the first five and half minutes, putting the game out of reach. 5:04 Jamar Brown 2-2 FT
McNeal recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 assists compared to three turnovers. Mouhammad Faye also recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Janning led all scorers with 17 points as seven out of eight Vipers reached double-figures.
The Armor were led by JamesOn Curry, who scored a game-high 18 points.
The Vipers return to action on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. when they face the Maine Red Claws at the Portland Expo Center.
