Austin Toros Team up with Local Community Organizations

Austin, TX Feb. 26, 2011 - The Austin Toros will dedicate next week's home games to promoting the efforts of the Campaign to End the R-word, raising breast cancer awareness and recognizing the service of the first responders of Central Texas. The Toros will host these community initiative games at Cedar Park Center.

The Toros will be teaming up with Marbridge and Special Olympics Texas as they take on the Texas Legends Wednesday, March 2 at 7:30 p.m. to spread the word about changing the conversation and ending the use of the R-Word. The Toros have taken the pledge to End the R-word and invite fans to join in the cause and take the pledge with them. Special Olympics athletes will also participate in a parade around the court to help raise awareness.

Girls Night Out will be presented by Cedar Park Regional Medical Center Thursday, March 3 at 7:30 p.m. during the Toros game versus the Texas Legends. Local women's organizations will be in attendance to celebrate women in business and increase breast cancer awareness. Toros players will be wearing pink jerseys during the game to promote the Mary Kay Foundation and support breast cancer awareness. The uniforms will be auctioned with the proceeds benefitting the Mary Kay Foundation.

During the March 5 game at noon against the Sioux Falls Skyforce, the Toros will recognize local fire fighters, policeman and emergency services personnel for their commitment to ensuring the safety of the communities of Central Texas. There will be a three-point shooting competition between the firefighters and policeman called "Guns vs. Hoses" during the pregame ceremonies.
