Villanueva Named Pitcher of the Week

BOWIE, Md. - Baysox right-handed starting pitcher Elih Villanueva has been named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Sunday, June 28. He is the second Baysox pitcher to win the award this season (Terry Doyle, June 8) and the third Baysox player to win an Eastern League weekly award during the month of June.

On Monday, June 22, Villanueva threw a complete game shutout in a 6-0 Baysox win over the Trenton Thunder. It was his second complete game of the season as he also threw eight innings in a 1-0 loss at New Hampshire June 3 and it was the Baysox second complete game shutout of the season (RHP Terry Doyle, June 7). In 10 starts for the Baysox this season, Villanueva is 5-5 with a 2.54 ERA, 42 strikeouts and 11 walks in 63.2 innings. He has the second-best ERA among starters on the team and the sixth-lowest in the Eastern League to go along with the third-best WHIP (0.93) in the league. Villanueva has also made four starts with Triple-A Norfolk, going 1-1 with a 6.53 ERA.
