Altoona Curve News Release
HARRISBURG, Pa. - The Altoona Curve lost the series finale at MetroBank Park, 4-2, as the Harrisburg Senators finished a three-game sweep. Curve pitcher Tyler Glasnow had seven strikeouts in his first appearance since being reinstated from the disabled list.
The Curve (42-34) have now lost five consecutive games, their longest losing slide this year. The Senators (36-41) have won six straight.
Glasnow needed 70 pitches to get through 3.2 innings, finishing with two unearned runs allowed on two hits and a pair of walks. His seven strikeouts matched his highest total this season.
The Senators broke a 2-2 tie in the fourth inning with an RBI single by Wilmer Difo against Curve reliever Josh Smith (Loss, 0-4). They extended the lead to 4-2 in the sixth with a run-scoring double by pinch hitter Shawn Pleffner.
After an RBI single by Josh Bell gave Altoona a 1-0 lead in the first, Harrisburg jumped ahead with a two-run single in the third inning Matt Skole.
Max Moroff led off the fourth with a double, and Jose Osuna scored him with a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 2-2.
Harrisburg starting pitcher Matthew Spann (Win, 2-0) allowed two runs on five hits in six innings. Reliever Gilberto Mendez (Save, 7) preserved the lead with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
Bell and Moroff each had two hits for Altoona.
The Curve continue the road trip with the first of a four-game series against the Trenton Thunder on Tuesday night. Right-hander Chad Kuhl (5-3, 3.18) will start on the mound for Altoona, countered by Trenton righty Brady Lail (4-3, 2.48). First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
