Pointer's Breakout Week Catapults Him to Eastern League Player of the Week

Reading Fightin Phils outfielder Brian Pointer has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of June 22nd through June 28th. Pointer is the fifth Fightins player this season to take Player of the Week or Pitcher of the Week honors this season.

Pointer hit .444 (8-for-18) with three home runs, one double, five RBIs, three runs scored, and three walks over six games last week. He also recorded 1.000 slugging percentage over that same period. The 23-year old capped off his week by going 3-for-4 with three home runs and five RBIs in an 8-5 win at Portland on Saturday. It was the first three home run game by a Reading player since Jim Deschaine on July 3, 2005 and the first three homer performance in the Eastern League since Bryce Harper did so on June 28th, 2014 with Harrisburg.

Over the last week, Pointer led all Eastern League players in on-base percentage (.524) and OPS (1.524) last week and tied for the lead in home runs (3) and total bases (8). He also ranked among the leaders in slugging percentage (1.000-2nd), batting average (.444-tied 2nd), extra-base hits (4-tied 4th), RBIs (5-tied 8th), walks (3-tied 9th), and hits (8-tied 10th).

In 52 games with the Fightins this season, Pointer is hitting .269 with eight homers and 19 RBIs. The Reno, Nevada native has been issued 30 walks and has a .398 OBP. He's tied for the team lead in homers with Cam Perkins.

Pointer was drafted by the Phillies in 28th round of the 2010 draft out of Galena High School in Nevada.
