Bakersfield Condors News Release
Victoria, British Columbia, Canada - The Victoria Salmon Kings scored three times in the span of three minutes of the second period to hand the Bakersfield Condors just their second regulation loss of the season, 5-2 at the Bear Mountain Arena on Tuesday night.
Victoria dominated much of the opening frame and took the lead 15:09 in with Ryan Finnerty's goal. New York Ranger defenseman Dale Purinton assisted on the goal, scored on a 2-on-1 break. They led in shots 10-5 in the first as well.
Brad Mehalko scored for the second time in as many games to tie the game at 1-1 early in the second, but the Salmon Kings soon regained control. Victoria tallied three times in less than three minutes with Ryan Watson scoring once and Jeff Williams tallying shorthanded and power play goals to take a 4-1 advantage into the dressing room through 40 minutes.
In the third period, Purinton again was the center of attention, delivering an elbow to the back of the head of Condors C Krzysztof Wieckowski that sent him head first into the boards. Wieckowski laid motionless on the ice for close to a half hour, while several doctors, trainers from both teams and Condors players helped lift him off the ice, put him on a stretcher and carried him away. Each team tallied once after that, notably Paul Rosebush getting his fifth of the season with a power play goal. There was no update on Wieckowski's status at press time.
The Condors and Salmon Kings will go at it again on Wednesday night with a 7:00 p.m. meeting before returning to California with a road game in Fresno on Friday. They return to Centennial Garden on Saturday, December 11th against the Greenville Grrrowl. The first 2,000 kids 12 and under will receive a Condors backpack, courtesy of KGET-TV 17 and Subway. In addition, the Condors are teaming up with R&D Leather Furniture on the Stay Focused Ministries Toy Drive that night. Bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate and receive a voucher good for a $1 terrace ticket to that game.
