Former All-Star Center Stringer Acquired from Las Vegas

Peoria, Ill. (December 8, 2004) – Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie of the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL announced today that the team has acquired sixth-year center Rejean Stringer (pronounced – ray-ZHAWN, strahn-ZHAY) from the Las Vegas Wranglers in exchange for financial and future considerations.

Stringer – a 5-foot-10, 185-pound native of Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan – notched 14 points (3g, 11a) for the Wranglers to open the 2004-2005 season, tying for first in assists (11) and second in points (14) through 19 games. The 30-year-old competed for EC Salzburg, The Red Bulls in the AUT.2 division (Austrian Second Division) in 2003-2004, leading the team in games played (T-37), goals (38) and points (86), and ranking second in assists (48). Two seasons ago, he amassed 96 points (37g, 59a) in 72 games for the Columbia Inferno – ranking first in the ECHL in game-winning goals (11), second in points and fourth in assists. For his efforts, he was named to the 2003 ECHL All-Star Team, assisting on the only two Southern Conference goals in an 8-2 loss; he also earned 2003 All-ECHL Second Team honors.

Stringer helped guide Columbia to the 2003 ECHL Kelly Cup Finals, where they lost to the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies in five games (4-1), leading the team in playoff assists (14) and points (17), ranking second in the League in assists and tying for fourth in points. He collected 57 points (14g, 43a) for Columbia in 2001-2002, ranking first in team assists and points, and placing second in power play goals (7).

In his sophomore campaign (2000-2001), Stringer registered 63 points (20g, 43a) in 71 games for the Fresno Falcons (then of the now-defunct West Coast Hockey League), ranking third on the team in goals and assists, and fourth in points. He split his rookie season (1999-2000) between the New Orleans Brass and the Kentucky Thoroughblades of the American Hockey League (AHL), recording 38 points (12g, 26a) in 70 collective games. He enjoyed a four-year NCAA Division I career with the Merrimack College Warriors, posting 165 points (54g, 111a) in 140 games.

Stringer ranks fifth All-Time in assists, sixth All-Time in games played, 11th All-Time in points and 22nd All-Time in goals in Merrimack Hockey History. He earned 1999 All Hockey East Second Team and All ACHA (America Hockey Coaches Association) East Second Team honors following his senior season (1998-1999). He led the Warriors in games played, assists and points as a junior and senior, and he tallied the most assists (46) by a junior in one season in Merrimack Hockey History in 1997-1998.

The Peoria Rivermen are a proud affiliate of the NHL's St. Louis Blues and a member of the ECHL – The Premier "AA" Hockey League. It is the first of two Church Nights this season.
