The Louisiana IceGators lost for the first time on the road since October 22 as the Charlotte Checkers took an early lead and hung for a 3-2 win over Louisiana, Wednesday night in the Cricket Arena.
    The Gators fell behind 2-0 after the first period as the Checkers used their speed to build a two goal advantage. At 7:49 Juris Stals took a centering pass from Ryan Lang and fired a wrist shot high over Nathan Marsters, his 5th and a 1-0 Charlottle lead. The Gators were not able to solve Checkers netminder Alex Westlund on two power play attempts in the period. Then at 19:27, former Buffalo Sabre, Jason Dawe, scored his 5th of the season as he beat Marsters with a wrist shot to make it 2-0 after the first 20 minutes.
     The Checkers maintained their two goal lead as each team tallied once in the 2nd period. At 2:02 Chris Thompson scored his 5th of the year, taking a centering pass from Pascal Pelletier and firing the puck low past Westlund to make the score 2-1.The Checkers extended their lead back to two goals as Ryan Lang got his second assist of the night, a perfect pass to Brandon Cullen for a one-timer past Marsters and a 3-1 lead. It was Cullen's 1st of the season.
     The Gators made it interesting in the 3rd as Pascal Pelletier scored his 4th of the year at 18:38 to cut the lead to one goal. Wes Mason and Chris Thompson assisted on the Pelletier goal. The Gators could not get any closer despite outshooting Charlotte 35-27. For the game the Gators were 0-5 on the power play, Charlotte 0-3.
     The road trip will continue Friday night in Columbia, SC, as the Gators visit the Columbia Inferno at 6:35pm CST. The game will be available on 960AM "The Gator" and on the internet at www.icegators.com.
The IceGators return home to the Frozen Swamp on Tuesday night December 14th to face the Gwinnett Gladiators at 7:05pm.
