South Carolina Stingrays News Release

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - Jason Fitzsimmons, head coach of the South Carolina Stingrays announced today the return of veteran forward Matt Reid for the 2006-2007 season.

"With such a young team, the importance of leadership is critical to our success," noted Fitzsimmons. We have been very selective in picking those leaders, and Matt fits the bill. He has been a big part of the organization over the last two years and has had two solid seasons with us. We are excited to have him back again this season leading the team with Cail."

This marks Reid's third year with the Stingrays after joining the team in 2004. The Massena, NY native earned 64 points his first year, placing him second on the team for the season. Last season, Reid began the year with former Stingrays right winger Ed Courtenay in Ireland with the Belfast Giants of the EIHL. After re-joining the Stingrays as a free agent in November 2005, Reid went on to be the second-leading scorer again, playing 51 games and earning 54 points (24g, 30a). Reid played in all six of the Stingrays playoff games last season scoring four goals and adding two assists.

"I'm glad I was able to work out an agreement with the Stingrays for this season," commented Reid. "With Davis, Cail, and myself, I think we have a strong foundation of veterans to build the team around. I'm excited for training camp to begin."

The 5'10", 190-lb. forward began his professional year with the Pee-Dee Pride in 2000. The seven-year professional recorded his best year with the Pride during the 2002-2003 season where he scored 28 goals and added 44 assists for 72 points that year. Reid's career also includes a stop in the American Hockey League with the Portland Pirates during his stand-out 2002-2003 season.

The puck drops on the 14th season of hockey in the Low Country on home ice on October 21st against Columbia.
