Fresno Falcons News Release

Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons announced today that the team has signed forward Danny O'Brien to a contact for the 2006-07 season. O'Brien becomes the first newcomer inked to a Falcons' contract for the upcoming campaign.

The 24-year-old will enter his first professional season in 2006-07. O'Brien completed a four-year career at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell, where he racked up 93 points in 145 games. Last season, he led the team with 14 goals, and finished tied for second in scoring with 27 points. The South Boston, Mass. native served as a team captain for three of his seasons with the Riverhawks. Last season, O'Brien received the Hockey East Sportsmanship Award, the first UMass-Lowell player to capture the honor in 13 years.

Following the completion of his senior season, O'Brien joined the ECHL's South Carolina Stingrays, scoring six points in just nine games.

"I am definitely excited about the upcoming season," O'Brien said. "I've never spent any time on the west coast, so I am excited to get out there for the start of my professional career. The Falcons are a solid organization with a winning tradition, and with a solid core of players coming back from last season, it should be another great season for the team."

"Danny comes highly recommended from a great conference and a great program in Hockey East," Falcons Head Coach and General Manager Matt Thomas said. "He was a proven scorer in college, and proved that he can do the same in the pro game with his performance in South Carolina at the end of last season. We look for him to add another element to our offense this season."

The Falcons open defense of their Pacific Division title on Friday, October 20, when they host the Las Vegas Wranglers at the Save Mart Center.
