Augusta Lynx News Release
A blockbuster trade for the Augusta Lynx has brought them 2006 ECHL All-Star goaltender Brett Jaeger from the Pensacola Ice Pilots in exchange for gritty winger Dan Sullivan.
Entering his third year as a pro, the 5-9, 175 lb. Jaeger posted a 21-6-8 record last year along with a 2.49 GAA and a .912 save percentage with the Fresno Falcons, earning him his first All-Star selection. In two seasons with Fresno, the Manning, Alberta native has appeared in 74 contests, going 40-15-14 with a 2.57 GAA and .920 save percentage.
"We had an immediate need to find an established goaltender," said Lynx head coach and director of player operations Bob Ferguson. "someone who was capable of being a number one (goaltender). We had to give up a quality player in Sullivan, but to get good players you have to give up good players. To obtain a player with Jaeger's credentials, it's a deal we have to make."
Jaeger, 23, fills a void in net left by the departure of Jason Wolfe, who has since signed in England. Wolfe's rights reverted to Texas at the end of last season as the Wildcatters will resume play this year. Jaeger's rights were acquired by Pensacola from Fresno along with those of forward Derek Krestanovich as future considerations in a deal that sent former Ice Pilot Chris Heid west on March 15, 2006.
The Lynx part ways with Sullivan, who was acquired in a trade by the club in exchange for Jim Sheppard on January 24, 2005. A physical player who racked up 275 minutes in penalties for the Lynx, Sullivan also found a scoring touch last season, posting career-highs in goals (18), assists (23), and points (41).
Jaeger joins Ryan Lang, Louis Goulet, Eric Lundberg, Mathieu Walthier, and Phil Cole as players heading to training camp in October. Augusta opens the season Friday, October 20 against the Columbia Inferno at 7:35 pm. Full, partial, and weekend season ticket plans are on sale now by calling the Lynx office at (706) 724-4ICE and speaking with a ticket representative. The countdown is on to BLACK AND BLUE HOCKEY!
