Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

Keith Maxwell will have to wait a few days to get to know Winnipeg.

Manager Rick Forney announced today the addition of the 31-year-old infielder, who drove in yesterday and flew with the club this morning to Calgary. He will be in the line-up this evening when the Goldeyes open a four-game series with the Vipers at Foothills Stadium.

Maxwell began the year with the Atlantic League's Newark Bears, batting .153 in 18 games with one home run and four runs batted in. In 701 career games entering the 2006 season, he was a .269 hitter with 102 home runs and 425 runs batted in.

A gifted glove man, Maxwell posted a .993 fielding percentage at first base last year with Newark and is a career .987 at first. He has played the last five years in independent ball following four seasons in the Pirates system.

Following their series in Calgary, the Goldeyes head to Edmonton for three games with the Cracker-Cats. They return to action at home on Monday, June 12 when Fargo-Moorhead comes to town.

Great seats for all home games are available at all Ticketmaster locations, including the ballpark box office.
