Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release

FARGO, N.D. - The RedHawks battled through two rain delays totaling 55 minutes to win Game 1 or their current three-game series, 9-7, over the Schaumburg Flyers in front of 3,274 at Newman Outdoor Field on Monday.

Fargo-Moorhead fell behind 0-2 in the top of the first inning and trailed as the game went into its first delay at 8:19 p.m. When the game resumed 28 minutes later the RedHawks posted five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and would never trail again.

Craig Ringe led off the inning with a single and Derek Dormanen was walked before Joe Mathis tied the game with an RBI single that plated Ringe from second base. When Ruben Salazar came to the plate there were runners on second and third. Both of them scored to put the RedHawks ahead on a Salazar single. Two more runs scored before the inning came to an end to give Fargo-Moorhead a 5-1 lead.

Schaumburg responded with two runs in the top of the sixth inning and put three more runs on the board in the eighth thanks to a three-run home run by Josue Lopez but it was not enough as Fargo-Moorhead continued to pile on the runs, scoring one in the sixth inning, two runs in the seventh inning and one more in the eighth to take a game-winning lead of 9-7.

At the plate the RedHawks received strong performances from Salazar and Derek Dormanen. Salazar went 2-for-4 at the plate and drove in two runs. Dormanen, who made his first appearance behind the plate for Fargo-Moorhead, went 2-for-3, drove in a run and scored twice.

Brandon Goltz was credited with the win as the RedHawks used five pitchers in the contest that took 4:07. He improved to 2-0 on the season after going 5.0 innings and allowing one earned run on four hits. Brian Adams came in to pitch the ninth inning and picked up his fifth save of the season. With the win Fargo-Moorhead moved to 13-4 and now has the best record in the Northern League.

The RedHawks and Flyers (12-5) will face off again on Tuesday in Game 2 as Fargo-Moorhead sends Todd George (1-0, 2.50) to the mound to face Schaumburg's Ian Holman (0-0, 3.86). The first pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
