
Velleggia Blasts IronBirds to 5-1 Win

Jamestown, NY - With two on and two out in the third inning, Joe Velleggia (6) drilled a three-run homer to left to give the Aberdeen IronBirds the lead. They never looked back as they defeated the Jamestown Jammers 5-1.
With one man out in the third inning, Glynn Davis doubled to left. A batter later, Mychal Givens walked. With two on and two out, Velleggia blasted a three-run homer to left field.
Aberdeen tacked on two more in the eighth inning. Givens reached on a walk. Velleggia hit a bloop double down the right-field line. With runners at second and third, Wynston Sawyer singled to left. Austin Goolsby then hit an infield single, scoring Velleggia and making it 5-0.
Jamestown got on the scoreboard in the eighth. Marquise Cooper hit a one-out double. He scored on an Austin Barnes RBI-single.
Mike Wright (2-1) pitched six shutout innings for his second professional win. He surrendered three hits and two walks while striking out five. Matthew Neil (1-3) took the loss.
The IronBirds and the Jammers will meet in the rubber match of this three-game series Friday night in Jamestown. Aberdeen will have right-hander Parker Bridwell (2-3, 4.54) on the hill. He'll go up against right-hander Josh Hodges (3-0, 4.06). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
