Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

Tonight's Match-up

Tonight, the Aberdeen IronBirds look to even their series with the Jamestown Jammers (Class-A Short-Season affiliate of the Florida Marlins) up at a game apiece. The IronBirds dropped the opener at Jamestown last night 8-3. After Brandon Erbe and Luis Lebron pitched perfect first and second innings respectively, Matt Hobgood was touched up for six runs on six hits in 1.2 innings of work. The Jammers did most of their damage in the fourth, scoring five runs on five hits. Tonight, the IronBirds will have the right-hander Mike Wright atop the hill. The former third-round pick is looking to get back in the win column after picking up his first professional loss in his last outing. He'll go up against fellow right-hander Matthew Neil.

Hoppy's Homecoming

IronBirds right-fielder Kyle Hoppy grew up in Buffalo, NY, about an hour-and-a-half away from Jamestown. In front of a crowd filled with family and friends, Hoppy picked up two hits and two RBI in Wednesday night's loss at Jamestown. Hoppy was named the Western New York baseball player of the year after his senior year of high school in 2009.

Erbe and Lebron

After allowing runs in their first outings for Aberdeen, Erbe and Lebron each pitched perfect innings on Wednesday night at Jamestown. Erbe struck out one batter. Lebron induced three air outs from the Jammers. Erbe is coming back from labrum surgery, while Lebron missed all of 2010 after receiving Tommy John surgery.

Drummond and Davis Return

After spending a significant portion of July on the disabled list, Matt Drummond and Adam Davis both played last night. Drummond, who was on the DL with a sore arm, surrendered a solo home run in an inning of relief. Drummond had not pitched since July 3rd. Davis, who was placed on the disabled list after being hit in the head by a pitch, went 0-for-2 in his first start since July 15th.

Schmarzo Settles In

Reliever Alex Schmarzo allowed a run on five hits in a season-high 3.1 innings of work last night. In his last five appearances (11 innings of work) Schmarzo has a 2.45 ERA. He has walked just one batter over that span.
