Hartford Yard Goats News Release
Reading, PA - Outfielder Zac Veen, who is the Rockies top prospect in Hartford, hit a go-ahead solo home run in the fifth inning to lead the Yard Goats past the Reading Fightin Phils 6-4 on Friday night at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading, Pennsylvania. Veen cranked his first homer of the season, an opposite field shot into the seats in left field, to break the 3-3 tie and put the Yard Goats in front for good. Colin Simpson also homered for the Yard Goats who have won three of the first four games in Reading. Dugan Darnell retired Wendell Rijo with the bases loaded in the ninth inning to record his first save.
The Yard Goats took a 1-0 lead three batters into the game off Reading starter Tyler Phillips. Hunter Goodman doubled home Zac Veen who walked. However, the Fightins scored three runs on five hits in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by a two-run homer by Baron Radcliff.
Down 3-1 in the fourth inning, the Yard Goats rallied to tie the game. Hartford scored a run on one of Reading's four errors in the game to make it 3-2. Then, Drew Romo tied the contest on a line drive single to left field, scoring Julio Carreras and it was 3-3.
Veen blasted a solo homer with two outs in the fifth inning lifting the Yard Goats to a 4-3 lead and ended the night for Phillips. Hartford added a run on a groundout in the sixth before Reading's Cody Roberts homered in the bottom of the inning. Simpson's solo homer in the eighth gave the Yard Goats a 5-3 lead.
The Yard Goats continue the road trip on Saturday night at 5:15 PM Fightin Phils. The game can be heard on AM 1410 WPOP, FM 100.9 and the iheart radio app. The Yard Goats return to Dunkin' Park on Tuesday, April 18th (7:10 PM) to host the New York Mets affiliate, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.
