Vazquez Transferred to Triple-A; Smith Activated from DL

(TRENTON NJ) The Trenton Thunder, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees announced today INF Jorge Vazquez has been transferred to Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes/Barre and that they have activated INF Kevin Smith from the disabled list.

Vazquez joined the Thunder on June 1st and batted .390 (16-41) with four doubles and six RBI. Vazquez, 28, made his Double-A debut with Trenton in 2009 and hit .329 with 13 HR and 56 RBI in 57 games for the Thunder. He was a ten year veteran of the Mexican League, recording at least a .300 average and 15 home runs in each of his final five season.

Smith, 26, is batting .175 with 3 RBI in 32 games for Trenton in 2010. In 2009 for Trenton, Smith batted .247 with 2 HR and 14 RBI in 48 games.

The Thunder have Monday off and open up a three game series at Waterfront Park against the Altoona Curve on Tuesday. The Thunder will have RHP David Phelps (4-0, 2.08) throw agianst RHP Tim Alderson (5-2, 4.29) for Altoona.
