TODAY: The Richmond Flying Squirrels and Reading Phillies will meet in game three of a four-game series...The Flying Squirrels battled back from a pair of deficits, 0-3 and 3-4, but the R-Phils got a two-out, walk-off, RBI single to left field from Tagg Bozied in the bottom of the ninth inning for a 5-4 win in game two of the series.
TODAY'S STARTERS: Right-hander Daryl Maday gets the start in game three of the series for the Flying Squirrels...Ended a personal two-game losing streak with a win 6/8 against New Britain...Allowed two runs on five hits over seven innings...Struck out two and walked none...Both runs allowed came in the seventh inning...Retired the leadoff batter in five of his seven innings on the mound...Recorded 10 ground outs and eight fly outs...Threw 94 pitches, 64 strikes...Went three balls in the count to just three of the 25 batters he faced...Retired 16 of 17 batters after giving up an infield single to Ben Revere leading off the game...Second time in 12 starts he did not walk a batter...Third time in 12 starts he went seven innings or more (twice against New Britain)...Has allowed two runs or fewer in 10 of his 12 starts...Leads the Eastern League with a 1.77 ERA...Attempting to become the first EL pitcher to nine wins...Is 2-0 in two starts against Reading...Has tossed 12 2/3 innings against the R-Phils, giving up just eight hits while striking out nine and walking four...Entered 2010 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA in four career appearances against Reading.

BAD NEWS COMES IN THREES: The Flying Squirrels have lost each of their last three games...It is the fourth losing streak of four games or more for the club...Richmond starters are 0-1 over the last three games with an 8.56 ERA (14R/13ER in 13 2/3 IP) while the relievers are 0-2 with a 6.00 ERA (8R/8ER in 12 IP)...The Flying Squirrels offense is averaging five runs and 10-plus hits over the last three games (15R/31H).
GOOD DAY?: The Flying Squirrels are 7-6 in day games; however, the club is just 2-6 in day games starting after noon...The club is 5-0 in day games starting before noon.
CALL THE COPS: The Reading Phillies were successful in seven consecutive stolen base attempts in the series before Quintin Berry was thrown out at second base by catcher Jackson Williams in the bottom of the fourth inning...The R-Phils were 5-for-5 in stolen base attempts in the series opener Friday night...Reading is fourth in the Eastern League in stolen bases as a team (51 in 80 attempts)...Richmond is second-to-last in the EL in throwing out base runners, having thrown out just 15 of 57 (.263)...Reading is last in the league at throwing out base runners (.254, 15-for-59).
POWER SURGE: First baseman Michael Ambort smashed a three-run homer last night as the Flying Squirrels have now homered seven times in the last five games (1.4 HR/G)...The club has had two multi-homer games over that span including a season-high three home runs on 6/8 against New Britain...Richmond had hit just 23 home runs through its first 57 contests including five multi-home run games (0.4 HR/G)...The Flying Squirrels are tied with the New Britain Rock Cats for the fewest home runs hit in the Eastern League (30).
THOMAS THE TRAIN: Outfielder Thomas Neal has hits in eight straight games including a season-high four hits in a 4-for-4 effort Tuesday night against New Britain...It is the fourth hit streak of five games or more for Neal, tops on the club...Since dropping down in the order 6/4 at Trenton, he is 14-for-31 (.452) over his last eight contests with four doubles, five RBI and three runs scored...The 22-year-old leads the club with 19 multi-hit games and 15 doubles and is tied with Conor Gillaspie for the team lead with 19 extra base hits...He is fourth in the Eastern League with 67 hits...Neal is the only Flying Squirrel to have appeared in all 62 games.
BRIGHT BLUE SKY-LER: Super utility man Skyler Stromsmoe has hits in each of his last five games including a season-high three hits 6/11 at Reading...Over the course of the streak, he is 9-for-22 (.409) with a double, triple, home run, one RBI, and three runs scored...The 26-year-old has hits in six of the seven games he has played in since coming off of the Disabled List 6/5...Since his return to the active roster, Stromsmoe is 10-for-29 (.345).
BURNT KIESCH-NICK: Outfielder Roger Kieschnick is 0-for-34 over his last nine games since seeing his five-game hit streak
come to an end...He has struck out seven times and has walked once over that span...The 23-year-old seen his average dip from .306 to .239...Kieschnick was 8-for-15 (.533) over his five-game hitting streak (5/9-5/13) with three home runs, nine RBI, and three runs scored...He has not played since 5/24 at Binghamton and was placed on the DL with back spasms 5/28.
DOUBLETREE DOWNTOWN DOUBLE PLAYS: The Richmond Flying Squirrels have turned 77 double plays in 62 games including six on 5/7 in Harrisburg...The club leads the Eastern League in double plays turned and has not gone more than two games without turning a double play.
CFS STAT OF THE NIGHT: The Flying Squirrels are two games under .500 for the first time since April 19th when the club was 5-7...Since scoring a season-high 11 runs on a season-best 19 hits, Richmond is just 4-11 over its last 15 games including a five-game losing streak...Since reaching a high-water mark of nine games over .500 on 5/14, the club is 8-19 over its last 27 contests...Richmond is 2-6 at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading.
