Vanek's two goals lead Americans past Ducks

BUFFALO, NY -- Thomas Vanek had two goals to lead the Rochester Americans to a 3-1 victory over the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks Friday at HSBC Arena in Buffalo.

Vanek, the fifth overall pick in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by Buffalo, scored a power-play goal 6:56 into the first period and added an even-strength tally five minutes later to give the Americans a 2-0 lead.

Paul Guastad also scored Rochester, which has won two of its last three games following an 0-3-2-1 start.

Michigan State product Ryan Miller stopped 29 shots in the win to improve his record to 2-5-0.

Tomas Malec had the lone goal for Cincinnati, which has lost two in a row and three of its last four.

Ilya Bryzgalov made 28 saves in the loss.

The crowd of 12,126 was the largest in Rochester franchise history.

The Ducks complete a four-game, nine-day road trip Sunday at 5:05 p.m. in Philadelphia.
