Jamestown Jammers News Release
JAMESTOWN, NY - A developing theme this season has been that the Jamestown Jammers just can't quite seem to hang on to a lead. That was again the case Wednesday night against the Tri-City ValleyCats. The Jammers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but the ValleyCats would rally back, and eventually win the game, 6-5.
Jamstown jumped out to their early lead in the bottom of the second. Right fielder Michael Suchy led off the inning with a single. Suchy moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by the designated hitter, Kevin Krause. With Suchy on second, third basemen Chase Simpson struck out, but first basemen Kevin Ross connected on an RBI single that scored Suchy. Ross then advanced all the way to third on the play via a throwing error by Tri-City left fielder, Derek Fisher. With shortstop Tyler Filliben batting, a wild pitch allowed Ross to score, making the score 2-0 Jammers.
Tri-City would answer with a run in the top of the third, via a single by third basemen J.D. Davis, who would come around to score on two errors by the Jamestown defense.
The score would remain 2-1 until the top of the sixth, when Tri-City would get to Jammer reliever Jose Regalado, and score four runs to take a commanding 5-2 lead. Catcher Jaime Ritchie would begin the rally win a double. He was then driven in by the next batter, shortstop Mott Hyde, who also doubled. Center fielder Bobby Boyd would then lay a bunt down, which was misfielded by Regalado, allowing Hyde to score, and Boyd to advance to second. Two batters later, Fisher would walk, and Boyd and Fisher would be driven in on a 2-RBI double by first basemen, AJ Reed, making the score 5-2 in favor of Tri-City.
Jamestown left fielder, Jordan Luplow, would pull the Jammers within 5-3 in the bottom of the sixth with a solo shot, which was his third home run of the season.
The ValleyCats would complete their scoring in the top of the seventh. Hyde would lead off the inning with a single, and then move to third on another single by Boyd. Hyde would then be allowed to score after Jammer reliever, Luis Urena, was called for a balk.
The Jammers deficit would remain 6-3 until the bottom of the ninth, when third basemen Chase Simpson launced a 2-run home run over the right field wall to make the score 6-5. However, the Jammer rally would stop there, and the Jammers would go on to lose their ninth game in a row.
Suchy and Ross led the Jamestown offense with two hits apiece.
Jamestown starter, Montana DuRapau, would work 3 2/3 innings, give up five hits, strike out two, and only give up one run. He would then be relieved by Miguel Rosario, who would toss the next inning and 1/3, while giving up only 2 hits, and no runs. After Rosario exited the game, Regalado came in and struggled. He would give up the four runs in the sixth inning, while only recording one out before being removed for Eric Karch. Karch recorded the last two outs of the sixth inning. Urena then pitched the seventh, and gave up one run on two hits. Sam Street would pitch the last two innings for the Jammers, which were scoreless.
These same two teams will square off Thursday night at Diethrick Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm, and gates will open at 6. Right-handed pitcher Frank Duncan will be on the mound for the Jammers. He will be opposed by righty Joe Musgrove of Tri-City.
