
Tigers' Bats Go Cold in Loss to Auburn

Norwich, CT "" The Auburn Doubledays (12-15) defeated the Connecticut Tigers (12-15) by a score of 4-1 Thursday night at Dodd Stadium. The Doubledays pitching overpowered the Tigers offense for the second consecutive night. Auburn used two relievers that combined for five shutout innings while giving up just two hits. RHP David Ramos (1-0) picked up the win for the Doubledays as pitched three scoreless innings while giving up one hit, one walk and struck out three batters. The save went to RHP Tyler Mapes (S, 1) as pitched two scoreless innings and gave up one hit.
Tigers RHP AJ Ladwig (0-1) suffered the loss in his second start with Connecticut. Ladwig pitched two innings while allowing two runs on one hit. In the top of the second inning with two outs, LF Matthew Page (0-4) hit a routine ground ball to SS Garrett Mattlage (0-5) which Mattlage bobbled and allowed Page to reach first base on the error. The very next pitch CF Dale Carey (2-4) he sent over the left field wall for a two-run homerun and put the Doubledays in front 2-0.
RHP Confesor Lara kept the Tigers in the game as he relieved starter Ladwig as Lara pitched six shutout innings while giving up four hits and struck out six batters. The Tigers scored their only run of the game on walk with the bases loaded against Doubledays starter LHP Travis Ott. Kapstein picked up his 10th RBI of the season with the walk which scored DH Joey Pankake (1-3) and cut the Doubledays lead to one run at 2-1. After scoring 18 runs on Tuesday afternoon, the Tigers have scored just two runs over the last 18 innings played.
In the series finale, Tigers RHP Chase Edwards (3-1, 2.40) is slated to face Doubledays RHP James Bourque (0-0, 5.68). Tomorrow is Friday Night Fireworks presented by US Foods. Stick around after the final out for a spectacular fireworks display after every Friday home game. There will also be a pre-game Blood Drive presented by American Red Cross.
