Jamestown Jammers News Release
JAMESTOWN, NY - For the second night in a row, the Tri-City ValleyCats left Diethrick Park after a one run victory. After pulling out a 6-5 win Wednesday, Tri-City found a way to win Thursday night's contest against the Jammers by the score of 4-3. A solo home run by ValleyCat first basemen A.J. Reed in the top of the eighth inning was the difference.
Tri-City would strike first in the top of the third inning. Second basemen Alex Hernandez would single with one out. Center fielder Bobby Boyd then popped up a bunt to Jammer first basemen, Andrew Lambo, for the second out. However, Hernandez would end up scoring on back-to-back singles by Tri-City right fielder Jose Solano, and left fielder Derek Fisher to stake the ValleyCats to the early lead.
The Jammers would tie the score in the bottom of the fifth. Third basemen Chase Simpson would walk with one out. Simpson would then advance to third, on a double by Jamestown shortstop, Tyler Filliben. An RBI groundout from second basemen Erik Lunde would score Simpson, and knot the score at 1.
The ValleyCats would pull ahead in the top of the sixth with two runs. Fisher led off the inning with a walk against Jammer reliever Jerry Mulderig. Third basemen J.D. Davis then followed with a single, which allowed Fisher to advance to second. Reed then singled, allowing Fisher to score, and Davis to move to third. Shortstop Mott Hyde would then connect on a single, that would score Davis, and put the ValleyCats up 3-1.
Jamestown would counter Tri-City's 2-run sixth, with a 2-run sixth of their own to tie the game again. Left fielder Jordan Luplow would begin the rally with a lead-off single. He would then advance to second on a sacrifice bunt by Lambo. Designated Hitter Taylor Gushue would lace a single to right, scoring Luplow for the first run of the inning. Michael Suchy then singled, allowing Gushue to advance to third. Catcher Kevin Krause then knocked in Gushue with a sacrifice fly, and the game would be tied at 3.
That would remain the score until the top of the eighth, when Reed launched his solo shot over the right field wall off Jammer reliever Nick Nuemann. The Jammers would not be able to scratch across the tying run in the bottom of the eighth, or ninth.
Luplow, Lambo, Gushue, Suchy, Filliben, and center fielder Carl Anderson picked up the six hits for the Jammer offense.
Frank Duncan, the Jamestown starter, threw well in five innings. He surrendered six hits, but struck out four batters, and only gave up one run. Duncan would be relieved by Mulderig in the sixth, who struggled and gave up the two runs in the inning. Neumann would throw the seventh and eighth innings, and give up the solo home run to Reed, but managed to limit the damage at that. Jared Lakind pitched the ninth for Jamestown, and tossed a perfect inning, with two strikeouts.
Tri-City and Jamestown will finish their 3-game series Friday night at Diethrick Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm. Gates will open at 6pm. Marek Minarik, a right-handed pitcher from the Czech Republic, will be on the mound for the Jammers. He will be opposed by right-handed pitcher Luis Ordosgoitti of the ValleyCats. Come out to the ballpark and enjoy all of the great things about Oktoberfest, and the Southern Tier Brewing Company. Sample different beers, taste a bunch of delicious food, and enjoy awesome entertainment in the Jammer Vineyard Tent Area.
