Valera, Rocchio and Noel All Go Deep as Akron Outslugs Erie 7-6

Summary

The Akron RubberDucks blast four home runs to outslug the Erie SeaWolves 7-6 on Saturday night at Canal Park.

Turning Point

Trailing by a run heading into the bottom of the fifth, Akron's offense looked to answer back in a big way. A leadoff Brayan Rocchio home run tied the game at six and with two outs in the inning, Jhonkensy Noel put Akron ahead 7-6 with a deep solo shot, his second home run of the night.

Mound Presence

Tanner Burns got the start tonight and struggled to settle in against a tough Erie lineup. Burns finished the night with four and two thirds innings pitched allowing six runs while striking out two. Brett Daniels followed with a scoreless inning and a third. Randy Labaut tossed two scoreless innings. Robert Broom threw a scoreless inning to pick up the save.

Duck Tales

In the bottom of the first Rocchio walked and was driven in with a George Valera two-run home run cutting into the early deficit making it 3-2 Erie. Micah Pries leadoff the second inning with a double and was driven in with a Daniel Schneemann single, tying the game 3-3. A Bryan Lavastida walk led to a two out, two-run home run off the bat of Noel, giving Akron a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the third.

Notebook

Both teams combined for eight home runs on the night, which is tied for most hit in Canal Park, the last time being on 8/20/2005...Valera's home run in today's game put him at 14 on the season which is tied with Pries for most on the team...Valera added onto his yearly RBI total (54) as he nears a top-5 position within the Eastern League in that statistical category...Game Time: 2:30...Attendance: 5,629.

The RubberDucks will conclude their three-game series against the Erie SeaWolves on Sunday, July 24 at 2:05 p.m. at Canal Park. Right-hander Gavin Williams (1-2, 1.75 ERA) will get the ball for Akron against Erie righty Austin Bergner (4-2, 2.31 ERA).
