Hartford Yard Goats News Release
Binghamton, NY - Trailing 5-2 in the seventh inning, the Yard Goats scored five runs to come from behind and beat the Binghamton Rumble Ponies 10-6 on Sunday afternoon at Mirabito Stadium in Binghamton, New York. Outfielder Niko Decolati cracked the go-ahead two-run single, scoring Aaron Schunk and Brenton Doyle, and helped Hartford to its seventh consecutive win. Brenton Doyle had four hits, Niko Decolati had three hits, and Grant Lavigne had three hits, including a home run and double. The Yard Goats have outscored their opponents 55-26 during the win-streak. New York Mets reliever Trevor May worked a scoreless inning on a MLB rehab assignment and allowed a hit to Lavigne. The Yard Goats won both games of the two-game series and return to Dunkin' Donuts Park on Tuesday to host the Red Sox affiliate, the Portland Sea Dogs.
Binghamton took a 3-0 lead in the second inning as Wyatt Young belted a three-run double off Hartford starter Noah Davis. The Mets affiliate made it 4-0 on Zach Ashford's RBI double in the third inning. The Yard Goats got a pair of runs in the fourth inning off Rumble Ponies starter Jose Butto. Willie MacIver doubled home Aaron Schunk and Brenton Doyle to make it a 4-2 game. Mets prospect Ronnie Mauricio drove home Matt Winaker in the bottom of the inning for a 5-2 lead.
However, the Yard Goats put together a rally in the seventh inning. Isaac Collins led off with a walk, stole second, took third on a grounder, and scored on Hunter Stovall's ground out to make it 5-3. Grant Lavigne followed with a solo home run to pull Hartford to within one at 5-4. Michael Toglia singled, Aaron Schunk walked, Brenton Doyle singled and Willie MacIver walked with the bases loaded, scoring Toglia to tie the game at 5-5. Niko Decolati then came up with a clutch two-run single to right field, scoring Schunk and Doyle, and giving the Yard Goats a 7-5 lead.
Hartford added three more runs in the eighth inning on five hits in the frame. Toglia had an RBI single, Schunk an RBI double and MacIver contributed with a sacrifice fly. Riley Pint faced the minimum three batters and had a strikeout to earn the win for the Yard Goats.
The Yard Goats return home to Dunkin Donuts Park next Tuesday, (July 26th), and will open a six-game series against the Boston Red Sox affiliate, the Portland Sea Dogs. The broadcast can be heard on AM 1410 WPOP and FM 100.9 and on the iheart radio app.
